I was lucky to grow up in an extended family full of creatives and surrounded by musicians, writers, filmmakers, and visual artists. Although I fully absorbed this way of life, I never got serious about music until falling deep in love with bluegrass and modern stringband music in my late teens. By college, I was devouring further studies Irish sean-nos singing, West African drumming, samba batucada, and managed to get academic credits for learning to play a frame drum and a bunch of old fiddle tunes.

Straight out of school, I began teaching, touring, and recording. My hunger for new sounds led to many adventures:  joining the jazz-fueled stringband Buellgrass led by bass and cello master Buell Neidlinger, sharing stages and studying with heroes of Celtic, Brazilian, and American roots music, and playing on many tours with songwriters Casey Neill, Willy Mason, Rachel Harrington, and others.

Over the last 30 years, I’ve had the honor of joining dozens of recording projects and touring extensively throughout the US, Europe, and Japan. In 2024, I returned to school, earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. I now work at the cross-section of music, mental health, and somatic (body-based) awareness working both one-on-one and in groups.
